You earnings depending on your site Niche and keywords you have in your content. Some keywords has a huge competition among advertisers so those get high bids and AdSense publishers get higher value for clicks. Less valuable keywords get smaller bids so publishers won't earn much for those. High paying AdSense keywords are like Insurance , Loans, mesothelioma, credit cards etc. Those keywords would help you to earn more money.
Higher the price for clicks harder to get traffic to your site because there is a huge competition for those keywords even among webmasters. You can earn more money with high paying keywords but again the catch is its pretty hard to get search engine traffic.

If you want to earn money from AdSense then try to get more traffic from search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. Specailly if you get search engine traffic from countries like USA, Canada, UK etc you might get more high paying ads because most advertisers do GEO targetting. Because about direct traffic you get also never take traffic from those PTC sites or traffice exchange sites. AdSense TOS Clears says those type of Traffic is not allowed. Traffic from search engines, other sites, forums and bookmark sites are ok. Be careful about traffic you get from social networking sites. If AdSense get a complain you spam those sites like Facebook you will get yr AdSense account banned. Also if Advertisers complain traffic they get from you is useless then you might get banned so always try to get quality traffic for your website.

There are plenty of websites which claim that they will teach you how to earn money from Google or How to earn money Home. You can find them in various forms with various names like Google cash, Google starter kit, Google work from home etc. They just show that they only take 1 or 2 dollars for this But all of these are membership sites which take a monthly fee of something between 50$ - 100$ even more sometimes. You will find a tiny note about this in their sites somewhere hidden ! Worst thing is most of those thing they teach you can be find in Google for free. You don't have to pay for any of these. Also Google or AdSense has no relationship or nothig to do with them.
To join Google AdSense all you need is a website or a blog which is at least 6 months old. The all you have do is get traffic from search engines for it.

Most of Newbie AdSense publishers think they can click on their ads or ask other people to click on ads and get away with it. But the simple truth is sooner or Later Google finds out about it and you get banned. So for any reason publisers not support to click on their ads or ask others to click on them. Even not allowed to encourage users to click on them. Its not a way to earn money faster but getting the accout banned.
Sometimes compititors might use them same method ban your account. So there is famous quote saying" Never tell about your websites to freinds or Enemies". You might loose your account because someone else try to click on yr ads. So always has to monitor AdSense stats and conatct AdSense support right away if you notice any unusual click activities.
